    Our Medical Assistant program can prepare you with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for entry-level positions as Medical Assistants. We focus on computer technology and word processing facets of the curriculum to enhance your potential for quick placement. Prior to graduation, you are required to complete a 160-hour externship program at a local clinic, physician’s office, hospital, HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) or other allied health facility where you may also find job opportunities after you finish.

    Kaplan College Denver takes this program one step further than most by featuring tasks assigned or delegated by a supervising physician, such as:

    • administering injections
    • taking vital signs
    • EKGs
    • assisting in minor surgical procedures
    • basic accounting procedures
    • fundamentals of charting and documentation

    You will also be taught to perform venipuncture in medical situations.

    This diploma program covers 740 clock hours over a period of 10 months and may be completed through day or evening courses. You must complete the program with a minimum of 47.0 quarter credit hours.

    This program is designed to present multiple job opportunities to you in various health clinics, physicians' offices and hospitals, but is not meant to lead to any particular outcome, including that specified in the program title.     The Medical Office Specialist diploma program is 740 clock hours for students and may be completed through day or evening courses. You must complete this program with 51 quarter credit hours. When you successfully complete our diploma program, you are certified to perform duties in any medical administrative or hospital administrative office.

    Specific duties may include:

    • filing insurance claims for group insurance
    • filing insurance claims private practice insurance
    • CPT and ICD–9 coding
    • DRGs
    • medical transcription
    • accounts payable and receivable
    • patient files and filing systems
    • payroll and financial statements
    • reception duties

    The objective of the Pharmacy Technician program is to prepare students with knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the pharmacy field or related area.

    Graduates of this program work directly under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. General duties may include transcribing physician's orders and hospital charts; drug product selection; preparing medications for dispensing, labeling, and refill authorization; computer data entry for patient profile maintenance; and procedures for acquiring all necessary information. They also assist in quality management procedures and security measures. Other duties may include preparing unit dose medications, IV admixtures, and sterile irrigations. Prior to graduation, students are required to complete a 160-hour externship at a local retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, residential pharmacy or other pharmaceutical facility where they may also find job opportunities.

    This program will assist students in preparing for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT) exam. Although the program is designed to prepare students to take various certification or licensing exams, the School cannot guarantee students will pass those exams. In some cases, field experience may be necessary to be eligible to take or to successfully pass the exams.

    The length of the Pharmacy Technician program is 740 clock hours over a 10 month period. All students must complete the program with 52.5 quarter credit hours. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Diploma.

    This program is represented to lead to multiple job opportunities and is not meant to lead to any particular outcome, including that specified in the program title. Although the School will assist students with job placement, finding a job is the ultimate responsibility of the student. The School does not guarantee that any student will be placed in any particular job, or at all.
